FREE EVENT ‘Windows to the Past’: A Buckland Church Heritage Talk & Tour

  • Tasman Highway 1 Duke Street Buckland, Tasmania 7190 Australia (map)

As part of the 2026 National Trust of Tasmania Australian Heritage Festival, FOBC are pleased to present a free guided Heritage Talk & Tour during an Open Day on Saturday 9 May 11.00am-1.00pm.

The tour will reveal the beauty and significance of its remarkable stained glass windows, including the famed image of John the Baptist, alongside its distinctive Gothic Revival architecture crafted from local sandstone.

The talk and tour will be delivered by Warwick Oakman, whose deep knowledge will bring the site to life and explore the layered history of the church and its community. Warwick is a Tasmanian-based architectural historian and 3rd generation dealer in antiques. He advises the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery on Colonial furniture and art; the Allport Library; the Museum of Fine Arts; and the Tasmanian National Trust.

Visitors to the Heritage Talk & Tour will encounter an extraordinary collection of historic chattels—from original furnishings to rare artefacts—offering a tangible connection to 19th-century colonial life. This experience brings together art, craftsmanship, and storytelling in a uniquely atmospheric heritage setting.

To help us organise visitor numbers, please book your free place(s) via Humanitix by clicking on this link

Refreshments ($5 per person) will be served at the Buckland Community Hall after the talk and tour.

All proceeds will go to the Buckland Church restoration fund.
